Westwick Row
In addition to the East Hemel site, The Crown Estate’s land at Westwick Row (located at the junction of Westwick Row and Green Lane, next to Leverstock Green Primary School – see redline in below map) has a draft allocation from Dacorum Borough Council in their emerging Local Plan, for the development of up to 80 new homes.
After a thorough selection process to choose a development partner with the right expertise to design and deliver exemplary homes, The Crown Estate has recently appointed TOWN. TOWN is a profit-with-purpose developer with a mission to create good places for better lives, meaning its work is aligned to our environmental and social values. The Crown Estate, TOWN and a team of award-winning architects will work in collaboration with the local community and future residents to design the new homes and surrounding areas.
Key elements of the design process include:
Feedback from the Ideas Exchange, a demographically representative group of local residents.
Engagement with other local residents and stakeholders to gather additional insights.
Input from a Renters Panel consisting of local private renters, ensuring that the design of homes, security of tenure and management structure meets the needs of future tenants. Recruitment for the Renters Panel is taking place during October 2024 - visit the Westwick Row webpage for more information.
A co-design process with potential future residents interested in living in a more collaborative and sustainable way. To find out more about this exciting opportunity to be part of co-designing your own home and community with your future neighbours visit the Westwick Row webpage.
The development also seeks to demonstrate best practice in sustainability and will explore the necessary changes in housing delivery to enable this. We intend to incorporate learnings from this project into future activity at East Hemel and in other communities.
While our work at Westwick Row is being run as a separate project, Westwick Row and East Hemel will complement each other and there will be opportunities for local communities to get involved in both projects.
